Our Calling and Faithfulness in Carrying Out Early Childhood Education

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

Teachers: Soul Architects and Reflections of Christ

In life, there is nothing more important than being a tool in God's hands to shape the human soul. As soul-shaping agents, everything we do and say, every choice we make, and everything we invest in is a reflection of the values our hearts truly believe. (Tripp, 2017)

“The formation of Christian character marked by faith, knowledge, and a sense of responsibility as the next generation of the nation.”

- Vision of Sekolah Kristen Calvin

The vision established from the very beginning by Rev. Stephen Tong is not merely a slogan, but a firm commitment of the school—a response to the urgent need to shepherd young warriors of Christ who are ready to carry on the legacy of the previous generation: a generation that loves and fears the Lord, and one that is courageous in facing challenges and ready to strive for the Kingdom of God.

There is an African proverb that says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” This proverb highlights the need for a community to provide children with positive experiences, meaningful interactions, and a safe environment where they can grow in a healthy way. A strong relationship between the family and the school is a key factor in a child’s development and well-being. Teachers have the opportunity to strengthen the bond between parents and children, nurture the child’s spiritual and faith development, and support parents in their role of preparing their children to engage with the wider community—society at large.

This Scripture verse serves as the foundation for Sekolah Kristen Calvin in fulfilling its calling as soul architects—introducing the true God, shaping hearts, cultivating habits of worship, obedience, and discipline, and nurturing each child’s mind from an early age. Teachers hold the perspective that every child is created in the image and likeness of God, possessing great potential to be discovered and developed—offering hope for the future of the nation. The redemption accomplished by Jesus Christ has the power to transform, reconcile, and renew the hearts of children so they may fulfill their original calling: to glorify and enjoy God forever.

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
